Did you know that Red Sox first baseman Hanley Ramirez almost had shoulder surgery last season? According to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com he was able to avoid surgery by doing physical therapy. In 2011 however, Dr. James Andrews performed a similar surgery on Ramirez that teammate Pablo Sandoval underwent just last week. Ramirez has some advice for the big hitter as he starts his rehabilitation. “The hardest thing is not the surgery. The hardest thing is the rehab,” Ramirez explained. “My advice to Pablo is that it’s going to take a lot of work. A lot of work, a lot of education and a lot of discipline because you use your shoulder for everything. I know that he can do it.”
